2021 is the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, who can be considered the equivalent of Shakespeare for the Italian language. This first of two projected episodes look at the Florence of Dante's times, how and why the city was transformed into a city-state, plus some references and analogies with the political life of our times.
